Customise a Digital Wedding Invitation: Fonts and Colours

Wedding Invitation Personalised Invitation Colour Scheme Wedding Planning

A template gets you most of the way there. The last stretch โ€” the part that makes guests say "that looks like them" โ€” comes from the small choices: a colour that matches your outfits, a font with the right feel, a photo behind a section.

You can customise your wedding invitation online yourself โ€” no design skills, no code, just settings (an editable wedding invitation, if you'd rather call it that; "customize" works too). Here is what you can adjust in my wedding invitation project, and a few habits that help.

Change Wedding Invitation Colours

Each template arrives with its own wedding invitation colour scheme. You can set your own primary colour and secondary colour, and choose a page background colour, with a colour picker โ€” so you can match your outfits or your wedding stationery.

Wedding Invitation Fonts and Sizes

You can choose a font for the whole invitation, or go further and choose separately for:

  • Your names
  • Headings
  • Event details
  • Dates and times
  • Buttons
  • The Best Wishes section
  • Parents' names

Each of those can also have its own size, from 8px up to 96px in 4px steps. On a few of the most distinctive templates, a font choice applies to the whole design rather than to individual parts.

Wedding Invitation Background Photo

You can put a photo behind the whole page, or give individual sections their own background photo. Leave them blank and the template's own background is used.

Which Sections Appear

Switch these on or off to suit your wedding:

  • Couple details and Parents
  • Countdown
  • Our Story
  • Venue and map
  • Gallery
  • RSVP
  • Best Wishes
  • Share
  • Contact (off unless you turn it on)

A section that has nothing in it โ€” a story with no entries, an events list with no events, a gallery with no photos โ€” hides itself, so guests never see an empty box.

How It Opens

Choose whether the invitation begins as a sealed envelope the guest taps open, or opens straight onto the page. Any template can do either.

  • Gallery: masonry (photos keep their natural shape), an even grid, or a swipeable carousel
  • Venue map: a small card, a large full-width map, details on one side with the map on the other, or no map at all โ€” just a Get Directions button

Your Words

The wording is yours, too:

  • The main invitation message
  • Which side of the family is sending the invitation, which decides whose names come first
  • The heading and tagline above your story
  • A "With Best Wishes" line at the foot of card-style templates, for the families or friends sending their wishes

You can also add background music, with a play and pause button for guests.

How Much It Moves

You can set the amount of animation to full, gentle, or minimal. Guests who have asked their phone to reduce motion always see the calmer version.

Change Your Mind? Reset Design

Experimenting is easier when you know you can undo it. Reset Design puts your colours, fonts, sizes, backgrounds, and design options back to the template's original look. It asks you to confirm first, and it never touches your names, parents, events, guests, or RSVPs.

A Few Habits That Help

  1. Start with the template, not the settings. Choose the one closest to your idea, then adjust โ€” it takes less effort than fighting a design that was never right.
  2. Change a little at a time. One colour, then look. One font, then look.
  3. Use fewer fonts. One font for names and headings and a plainer one for details usually reads better than many.
  4. Check it on a phone. That is where most of your guests will open it.
  5. Keep text easy to read. If a background photo makes words hard to see, choose a plainer one.

When Settings Are Not Enough

There are limits to what settings can do. If you need something beyond the available template options, you can contact me to discuss a customised version.

FAQ

How do I change the colours of a wedding invitation?
Open the Design settings for your wedding and set a primary colour, a secondary colour, and a page background colour with the colour picker. Every template ships with sensible defaults, so you only need to change what you want to change.
Can I change fonts on a digital wedding invitation?
Yes. You can set one font for the whole invitation, or choose separately for names, headings, event details, dates, buttons, Best Wishes, and parents' names, each with its own size from 8px to 96px.
How do I add a background photo to my invitation?
You can set one photo behind the whole page, or a different photo behind individual sections. If you leave a section blank, it falls back to the template's own background.

Every one of these settings exists to turn a shared template into a personalised wedding invitation โ€” something that reads as yours, not as "template #14 with different colours." That's the whole point of being able to customise a digital wedding invitation rather than just picking one off a shelf.
